Social Media Platforms Under Scrutiny

Indonesia's Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kominfo) is urging social media platforms to provide greater clarity on their policies regarding the closure of accounts belonging to individuals under the age of 18. This initiative stems from growing concerns over child protection and data privacy within the digital space.

Kominfo wants social media companies to clearly outline the procedures and criteria they use when deciding to close the accounts of underage users. The ministry aims to ensure that these platforms are adequately protecting young people and handling their data responsibly.

The ministry's demand highlights the ongoing efforts by governments worldwide to regulate online spaces and enhance user safety, particularly for vulnerable populations like minors.
